Ice Storm, 2009 and The Fairness Thing

At the end of the fray, 200,000 people without power. I was without for two days and my house got down to 49 degrees. I have power now, but many people I know do not. That being said, I think power crews have done a great job. Bringing 200,000 down to 100,000 in less than 24 hours is very impressive. Between Hurricane Ike leftovers and the ice storm, we won't have any trees left. Audubon Park (a very pretty, large-tree filled neighborhood) looks like a snowy war zone. We are supposed to get more snow over the weekend. On Monday, if I don't get called in, I am DEFINITELY going sledding :).

I've been hearing about The Fairness Doctrine (from conservative talk-radio, obviously) over the past week. I can't believe that the senate and congress are considering re-instating this. Any government regulation of the content of speech is wrong, period. Don't care if you are left, right, center or outer space. That said, I think this is a non-issue brought on by various sides to distract from the "stimulus bill" that is just full of pork and nonsense. Our representatives should be ashamed of themselves. Jobs that won't kick in for two to three years? Come on.

I'm Not Effervescent

Thank god there are millions of people out there that are, though.
I mean, really. The world would just spin off its axis. On a side note, I'm very happy to have a job, I'm very happy to have a job, I'm very happy to have a job......etc, etc, etc,

Architectural Appreciation

The more I think about it, the more feasible and money aware it is to build your own home. I've been looking at some of the work that the Rural Studio has been doing in Alabama, and I must say that I'm impressed. Affordable, sustainable housing that honestly looks good. Taking a second look at recycling materials in architecture is also something that gives me hope. While I'm an unskilled dumpster diver, the idea is appealing. Far from being a "greenie", I like the idea of not wasting, and I like the fact that natural materials are being used (straw bales? Whodathunk)
And oh look, they have one with a basement. Yeah, the drawing is kind of amateur, but I like the concepts. And with land being cheap, it might be less money to build your own that you helped to create.

Unwise Wisdom Teeth

I had the bottom right one removed on Monday and got a filling on the same side.

owowowowowowowowowowowowowow (ad infinitum)

Good lord, I don't know how people get all four done at once. I'm starving and the only thing I can eat is liquid stuff. I'm going by the smoothie place after work the curling up with some pain meds.

I feel bad about not working out this week, but I just can't see huffing and puffing with my mouth like this.
